I received digital, physical, and audio copies from Orbit Books. All reviews are my own.
I’m back for another round with Kimberly Lemming’s Mead Mishaps series. Her second book, That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf, is just as unhinged and cutesy as her first, That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon. Well, wait, Ms. Litt Librarian! You read TTIGDASAD years ago! Why did it take so long to read the second book??? Well, I’m glad you asked! I actually read the sequel soon after finishing the first and loved it, but procrastination kicked in, and I never wrote the damn review. That’s on me. So I decided to revisit Lemming’s world of Boohail and finally write the review I’ve owed for years.
"Anyone else ever thrown a drink at someone's head, only to miss entirely and hit a stranger behind them? Then have that stranger fall madly in love with you because it turned out that drink you threw was a love potion? No, just me? Well damn.
Dealing with a pirate ship full of demons that just moved into town was hard enough. Now on top of it, I have to convince a werewolf that I'm not his fated mate, he's just drugged. Easier said than done.
Though I have to say, having a gorgeous man show up and do all of your chores while telling you you're beautiful isn't the worst thing to happen to a girl."
TTIGDAYALPAAW follows TTIGDASAD, this time focusing on Cinnamon’s best friend Brie, who happens to be a cheese maker. I really do love how Lemming connects the author’s name with their occupation. Brie is tired of all the lame men in her village and just wants to be left alone, but one keeps pestering her for company. She finally gets fed up and throws a love potion (unbeknownst to her) at the offender, but misses and hits someone else, a werewolf named Felix. Now Felix thinks Brie is his fated mate. Brie must find the cure to undo the spell, but she may just be falling for the puppy-eyed dog. Meanwhile, some of the women from the village go missing, and it’s up to the merry band of demons from Book 1, to go find and save them.
TTIGDATALPAAW lived up to my expectations. It’s just as weird and unhinged as the first book, and that is alright with me. Lemming kept the same formula: blackity-black plus-size FMCs, comedy, romance, and outlandish outcomes that still land well in the end. I thought demon sex was an eye-opener in the first book. Well, it ain’t got on an Omegaverse…. And some tentacles… we’re not going to talk about it. Oh, and did I mention that there’s a talking sword?
I rated this book 4-stars. I had a great time! The second book kept the same formula as the first and did not miss! Will I be following Dante’s search for love in Book 3, That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Human? Absolutely! I’m locked in!
That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf is available now!
